About the Conference

The 1st International Columbia Coaching Program Conference, held on October 22–23, 2014, at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City, introduced the theme “Space as Context for Executive and Organizational Coaching.” This inaugural event brought together coaches, scholars, and talent development professionals to explore how various dimensions of "space"—physical, psychological, social, cultural, and virtual—shape coaching engagements and outcomes.

The conference featured 15 concurrent sessions across four thematic tracks: intra/interpersonal space (coach-client relationships), group space (team coaching), cultural space (organizational climate), and industry space (sector-specific practices).  Highlights included a keynote by Dr. W. Warner Burke on "Learning Agility: The X-Factor for Effective Leadership?" and a community-building session led by Juanita Brown utilizing the World Café method.
